Overview
At the heart of the Mediterranean, Malta is a unique environment where many cultures meet. With over 7000 years of history, the Maltese Archipelago has experienced all the major civilisations that have inhabited the Mediterranean basin. Because of these multicultural influences, it is easy to settle into the local lifestyle.
Malta has a long tradition of education, dating back to the 16th century, when the University of Malta was established to cater for the education of the Knights Hospitallers. Its medical school was one of the most advanced in Europe at the time.
Today, the University of Malta, which is state-funded but retains an autonomous status, has 14 faculties and caters for students from over 80 countries.
The Malta College of Art, Science and Technology (MCAST) is a state institution bringing educational experience closer to the industrial sector in fields such as the creative arts and digital media, engineering, aviation and maritime. The Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) works closely with the tourism sector and offers programmes for all aspects of the industry.
A number of renowned international universities are also coming to Malta. The University of Middlesex, University of London and Barts, and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry all have, or will soon have, a presence in Malta.
English – official language of Malta
Malta is a hub for ‘English as a Foreign Language’ schools in the Mediterranean. English is an official language of the islands, and is widely spoken here.
Culture and settling in
Besides Malta’s excellent educational facilities, you can also enjoy its Mediterranean lifestyle.
Rich in culture and heritage, Malta is renowned for its beautiful sea and splendid beaches to be enjoyed during the long bathing season from late April until October. Short distances mean that you are never too far from sport, sightseeing or culture.
The local cuisine is a blend of Mediterranean tastes. Numerous restaurants and cafes around the islands make dining out an experience in itself.
The islands of Gozo and Comino are generally greener and quieter than Malta and provide an idyllic retreat.
Good connections
Located at the centre of the Mediterranean basin, Malta is well connected by air and sea to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. All major European airports are connected with Malta International Airport and travelling does not exceed three hours of flight.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout.
The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English.
Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
